Scheming Swindle: Thieves Pose as Police, Fleece Senior Citizen of One Lakh Rupees in Pune

Aundh, Pune – In a startling incident that unfolded on the morning of November 15, 2023, in Aundh, Pune, cunning thieves donned the guise of police officers to orchestrate a calculated theft. Their target: a 74-year-old senior citizen returning from his routine morning walk at Chondhe Garden. The thieves, by posing as crime branch police, managed to deceive the elderly man and make off with gold jewellery valued at one lakh rupees.

Deceptive Encounter:

Around 8 a.m. on Monday, the unsuspecting senior citizen fell victim to the impersonation as he was approached by two individuals on a motorcycle. The impostors, claiming to be police officers, spun a fabricated tale about a recent theft in Aundh village. Asserting their authority, one of them, posing as a policeman, cautioned the elderly man about wearing excessive jewellery while walking. Subsequently, the victim was asked to place his jewellery in a handkerchief for purported examination.

Swift Swap and Escape:

Complying with the deceptive request, the complainant placed his jewellery in the handkerchief as directed. Unbeknownst to him, the thieves took advantage of the situation, deftly swapping the handkerchief containing the victim’s valuables with another. It was only when the elderly man inspected the handkerchief at home that he realized the shocking truth—the thieves had successfully made off with gold worth one lakh rupees.

Official Complaint Filed:

Recognizing the severity of the deceptive act, the victim promptly lodged a complaint with the Chatushringi Police Station. The police are now actively investigating the case to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In this carefully orchestrated scheme, the thieves exploited the trust placed in law enforcement to execute their crime, leaving authorities to unravel the deceptive plot.
