Pune: Mentally unstable woman from Baner lost Rs 37 lakh to cyber criminal in just 4 hours

Pune: With a rise in online frauds and scammers, a mentally unstable woman from Baner lost Rs 37 lakh by fear of getting arrested by the police. The accused called the victim and said that he is calling from the police station and a parcel with her name has arrived and it contains drugs and the reason it has been seized by customs officials. The accused said that in order to avoid arrest you will need to transfer Rs 36,99,999 and the woman transferred it. The incident took place on Tuesday 8 in just four hours between 9 am to 1 pm. The woman lodged a complaint regarding it at Hinjewadi police station. Accordingly, police have registered a case against the mobile phone holder and the person who contacted through Skype ID.

According to the police, the complainant received a call from an unknown number. The caller said that he is a police officer from Pune police station and a parcel has arrived in the name of the plaintiff. The parcel contains an illegal passport, laptop, 800 grams of ganja, 140 grams of MDMA drugs and it has been seized by the customs authorities. The caller asked the plaintiff to send money to avoid arrest. The plaintiff panicked and sent as much as Rs 36,99,999 to the bank account given by the accused.

Accused took the advantage of woman mental instability

When the police questioned the woman’s parents they informed that their daughter is mentally unstable and she has been undergoing treatment for the past two years. She is working in an IT company and was about to go abroad for further education and the reason she kept such a huge amount in her account. When she received the call from an unknown number she panicked and sent the money.
