Pune: Khadki-based goon Raja Maratkar’s son, his accomplice booked, detained for hacking divorced wife’s husband to death

Pune: Khadki Bazar-based goon Raja Maratkar’s son Sunny and his accomplice hacked a youth to death. The deceased had married Sunny’s former wife. The incident took place at Pawale Chowk in Kasba Peth on Thursday afternoon.

The youth died on the spot while his wife received serious injuries in the attack. The deceased youth has been identified as Sumit Patekar, a resident of Kasba Peth. Prajakta Sumit Patekar (34), a resident of Kasba Peth, lodged a complaint at the Faraskhana Police Station. A case has been registered against Sunny Rajendra Maratkar, a resident of Khadki Bazar, and his accomplice.

Sumit and Prajakta live in the Agrawal Pride housing society at Pawale Chowk. Sunny had divorced Prajakta, who later married Sumit. Sunny was upset over her decision. The two assailants barged into her home at around 2.30 pm on Thursday. Prajakta, her mother-in-law and Sumit were at home. Even before they could realise who had entered their home, the duo launched a brutal attack on Sumit with a sickle. Prajakta tried to save him but Sunny attacked her too. Sumit died on the spot.

DCP Sandeep Singh Gill, DCP Amol Zende, ACP Rangnath Unde and Sr PI Prashant Bhasme rushed to the spot after learning about the incident. The Faraskhana Police late night detained the accused. Sunny’s father Raja Maratkar was a history-sheeter. He terrorised people in Khadki Bazar. He had many serious offences registered against him. Raja Maratkar was killed in a gang war by Tambi Gous and accomplices.
