PUNE: The driver of a container rammed into a road divider as he failed to spot it at night on the Hadapsar flyover. Because of the collision, the heavy iron pipes in the container moved forward and after damaging the cabin, fell on the road. The container turned turtle and the driver was seriously injured and was admitted to a hospital by local residents. The accident happened at 3 am and this led to a traffic jam.
The injured container driver has been identified as Hanumant Laxman Sanap (42), a resident of Beed district. Ravikant Dadasaheb Kachre (33), Hadapsar police station, has lodged a complaint. PI Sandip Shivle of Hadapsar police station said, “The container, which was loaded with iron pipes, was going to Solapur at 3 am. When the container reached opposite Vaibhav theatre, the driver did not see the divider of Hadapsar flyover and hence, the container rammed into the divider.”
However, because of the collision, four iron pipes each weighing five tonnes moved forward and fell on the road after breaking the cabin. The cabin was destroyed and the contained turned turtle. The driver’s hands and legs were injured. The drivers of other vehicles pulled out the driver and admitted him to a hospital. Meanwhile, the accident led to a traffic jam and the police moved aside the container and the pipes by using a crane. The traffic became regular later.
