Pune: Baby kidnapped from Pune railway station rescued in Karnataka by Pune police, two held

Pune: A six-month-old baby boy was kidnapped from the Pune railway station. The incident was captured in CCTV cameras. The Bund Garden police rescued the baby safely from the clutches of kidnappers on the basis of CCTV footage and technical analysis. They arrested two accused.

The baby has been identified as Shravan Ajay Telang. The arrested accused have been identified as Chandrashekhar Malkappa Nalugandi (24), a resident of Karnataka and Subhash Putappa Kamble, a resident of Solapur. Ajay Telang lodged a complaint at the Bund Garden police station. The incident took place at around 2 am on the Pune railway station premises on Saturday.

The Telangs hail from Bhusawal. The baby’s parents were visiting Pune to meet the mother-in-law of Ajay. The baby’s parents were sleeping on the railway station premises at midnight on Saturday. An unidentified person kidnapped the baby. When the baby’s parents woke up, they found their child missing. They searched for the child but could not trace him. Later, they approached the Bund Garden police station.

Senior PI Sandipan Pawar instructed the investigation squad to search for the child. The squad checked the CCTV footage from the premises and also made a technical analysis of mobile phones. It was found that the accused had taken the baby to Vijapur by a car. Initially, he took the baby to Indi in Bijapur district and later to Bijapur.

Officers and personnel of the squad immediately left for Bijapur. They traced the baby and the accused and detained Chandrashekhar Nalugandi. On sustained interrogation, he confessed to the kidnapping, along with his accomplices. He told the police that he had sold the baby to Subhash Kamble. The police searched for Kamble, who was staying in a hotel in Bijapur. They raided the hotel and rescued the child.

The action was taken under the guidance of DCP Smartana Patil.
