Online Scam Shocker: Rahatani Resident Loses Rs 16 Lakh in Deceptive YouTube Scheme

In a startling incident, a 35-year-old resident of Rahatani fell prey to an online scam, losing a substantial amount of Rs 16,11,080. The fraudulent activity transpired between October 29, 2023, and February 4, 2024, highlighting the alarming nature of online financial fraud.

The victim narrated that he received a message from an unknown WhatsApp number, inviting him to like and subscribe to a specific YouTube channel. The lure was a deceptive financial reward scheme, promising Rs 150 for the first comment and Rs 50 for each subsequent comment. The victim was enticed with the prospect of earning between Rs. 1,500 and Rs. 4,000 daily by providing 24 comments and likes each day.

As the conversation progressed, the anonymous individual persuaded the victim to join a Telegram group. Within this group, the scammer set various goals and convinced the victim to make payments to meet these targets.

Ultimately, the victim ended up parting with a staggering Rs 16,11,080, falling victim to the intricate scam. Promptly reporting the incident to the Wakad Police Station, a case has been filed against the accused, prompting an immediate investigation.

The Wakad Police are actively probing the matter to identify the culprit and unravel the workings of this fraudulent operation, emphasizing the need for public awareness and vigilance against online scams.
