Horror in Mumbai: Death Sentence for 24-Year-Old Transgender in Infant Rape-Murder Case

Pune Sessions Court

In a bone-chilling incident that has rocked Mumbai, a 24-year-old transgender individual has been sentenced to death by a special POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court for the horrifying kidnapping, rape, and murder of a three-month-old girl.

The court deemed this case as the “rarest of rare,” attributing the severity of the crime to the victim’s family’s refusal to provide a ‘bakshish’ or tip after the child’s birth in July 2021.

Judge Aditee Uday Kadam strongly condemned the defendant’s actions, describing them as barbaric and inhuman. The innocent infant fell victim to extreme depravity, reflecting the accused’s perverse mindset. The court’s decision to impose the death penalty underscores the gravity of the offense, sending a resounding message against such heinous acts.

The tragic sequence of events began on the night of July 8, 2021, when the victim went missing. The convict, residing in the same vicinity, had earlier demanded ‘bakshish’ from the family. Despite their refusal, the accused returned later with an accomplice, abducted the infant, and subsequently buried her body in an attempt to conceal the evidence.

Medical examination findings unveiled the cause of death as drowning, coupled with unnatural genital injuries indicating sexual assault. The court emphasized that there was no provocation from the victim’s family to justify such a gruesome act.

This distressing case serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by young children and underscores the imperative need for swift and stringent justice to act as a deterrent against such atrocities in the future.
