Pune, 22nd June 2023: In a shocking development, Dr. Anil Ramod, an IAS official holding the position of additional divisional commissioner (revenue), has been suspended and arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a bribery case. Dr. Ramod was taken into custody on June 9 for his alleged involvement in corrupt practices, specifically demanding and accepting bribes. The CBI investigation revealed that the bribe was related to a land acquisition case for the national highway in Solapur district.

According to reports, Dr. Anil Ramod’s arrest came after a thorough investigation by the CBI, which presented substantial evidence against him. The arrest took place on June 9, and Dr. Ramod was subsequently produced before the CBI Special Court in Pune on June 10. He was then remanded to police custody for a period exceeding 48 hours, until June 13.

Following these developments, the General Administration Department of the Government issued a notification stating that a case has been registered against Dr. Anil Ganpatrao Ramod, who was serving as the Additional Divisional Commissioner in the Pune Division and Arbitrator of Satara, Pune, and Solapur District. The appointing authority has decided to suspend Dr. Ramod, effective from June 9, under the provisions of sub-rule (2) A of rule 3 of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969. This suspension will remain in place until further orders.

The proposal to suspend Dr. Anil Ramod from his position as additional divisional commissioner (revenue) was initially forwarded to the Chief Minister’s Office by the Pune Divisional Commissionerate, based on the seriousness of the allegations and the evidence presented.

The CBI investigation revealed that Dr. Ramod had accepted a bribe of Rs. 8 lakh with the intent of providing additional compensation to landowners involved in the national highway land acquisition case in Solapur district. This illegal act led to his detention by the CBI on June 9. Subsequently, on June 13, Dr. Ramod’s detention by the CBI came to an end, and he is currently being held at the Yerawada Central Prison.

Further probing into the case, the CBI discovered that Dr. Anil Ramod had a total of 17 bank accounts under his name, as well as those of his family and other relatives, with a combined cash balance of Rs. 47 lakh. The CBI has expressed its intention to thoroughly investigate the sources and procedures involved in accumulating this substantial amount of cash.
