Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Bust Four-Member Gang Involved in Robbing Women Labourers

PUNE: A four-member gang which used to loot women labourers at secluded areas after promising them work, has been arrested by the Bharti Vidyapeeth police. The police have seized various items from the accused which they had looted from the women. The incident took place on July 24 at 11 am near the old Katraj tunnel.

A woman had lodged a complaint at the Bharti Vidyapeeth police station. The police have registered an FIR against the unknown accused under sections 392 and 34 of the IPC. The four accused took the complainant and her colleague to an area beyond the old Katraj tunnel. The accused had asked the women to deboard the vehicle and taken them to a kaccha road going towards a hill and had taken away their gold ornaments, mobile and cash totally worth ₹76,000.

After carrying out an investigation, the police arrested Nitin Sahebrao Chavan (30), Santosh Nagorao Kanode (20), Suklla Bajirao Giri (19) and Sunil Narayan Giri (19), all residents of Warje Malwadi and hailing from Nanded district.

The action was taken under the guidance of CP Ritesh Kumar, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Pravin Kumar Patil, DCP Smartana Patil, ACP Narayan Shirgaonkar by Sr PI Vijay Kumbhar, PI Vijay Puranik, PI Girishkumar Dighavkar, API Amol Rasal, policemen Shailesh Sathe, Mangesh Pawar, Nilesh Khairmode, Sachin Sarpale, Chetan Gore, Nilesh Dhamdhere, Harshal Shinde, Abhijeet Jadhav, Avdhoot Jamdade, Sachin Gade, Dhanaji Dhotre, Anhinay Chowdhary, Ashish Gaikwad, Rahul Tambe, Vikram Sawant in taking the action.
