Vimannagar’s Traffic Nightmare: Residents Urge Swift Completion of Drainage Work

Vimannagar residents find themselves in a predicament as the much-needed drainage work near Kailash Chowk remains incomplete, causing persistent traffic issues and safety concerns. Despite ongoing efforts, the sluggish progress and lack of communication have left locals frustrated.

Sajid Attarwala, a resident of Hermes Drome Society, expressed concerns, stating, “The drainage work has been stagnant for a long time. Only the road has been dug up, and the work seems to stall during the day. Surprisingly, it picks up in the evening during peak traffic hours, making it challenging for even small scooters to navigate. While traffic police try to manage the situation, the stretch from Hermes Drome to Kailash Supermarket Chowk has been stuck for an extended period, demanding swift completion of the work.”

Deepaksingh Rajput, residing in Gokul Gardens, added, “The work has come to a standstill, creating an obstruction for vehicles with only half of the road accessible. Traffic congestion is exacerbated when vehicles on one side proceed while the other side is halted. With the road dug up on one side and the presence of roadside vendors, the traffic bottleneck persists from 6:30 pm to 9 pm.”

Qaneez Sukhrani, a Vimannagar resident and citizen activist, highlighted the prolonged nature of the project, stating, “Three months have passed since the drainage work began at Gangapuram Chowk, but only 300m have been completed. The contractor’s apparent incompetence and the slow pace of work have raised concerns. Potholes on the open side of the road add an additional layer of danger. The lack of information boards exacerbates the situation, leaving residents uninformed about the progress and timelines.”

Rajendra Jadhav, Executive Engineer at PMC Drainage Department, assured residents, saying, “The current stretch’s work will be completed in eight days. Additionally, the pending 200m line will also see swift completion.”
