Pune City Police Ramp Up Security Measures Ahead of Two-Phase Polls

Deployment of 900 Officers and 10,000 Personnel Planned to Ensure Smooth Conduct of Lok Sabha Elections

As the Lok Sabha elections approach, the Pune City Police are intensifying their efforts to ensure the safety and security of voters and polling booths. With constituencies in Pune, Baramati, and Shirur gearing up for polls, a comprehensive plan has been devised to deploy a significant number of security personnel across the region.

The jurisdiction of Pune City police extends to areas under Baramati, slated for polls on May 7, as well as Pune and Shirur Lok Sabha constituencies, scheduled for elections on May 13. In anticipation of the electoral process, senior officials have outlined a meticulous deployment strategy, which is set to undergo final approval from a committee comprising electoral officials, district administration, and top police personnel.

For the May 7 phase in Baramati, Pune Police have projected the deployment of 375 officers, 3,500 personnel, 475 Home Guards, and two companies each of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and State Reserve Police Force (SRPF). Similarly, for the May 13 phase, the anticipated requirement includes 560 officers, 7,000 personnel, 1,900 Home Guard personnel, two SRPF companies, and three CRPF companies.

In addition to manpower deployment, the Pune City Police have announced the implementation of prohibitory orders within a 200-meter radius of the two nomination filing centers in Pune, namely Council Hall and District Collector Office. These orders will be enforced from April 12 to April 29, coinciding with the nomination filing, scrutiny, and withdrawal processes for the Lok Sabha polls.

Since the announcement of the election schedule by the Election Commission of India in March, the Pune City Police have been proactive in issuing prohibitory orders to ensure peaceful conduct of polls. These directives encompass regulations for rallies, campaign activities, as well as a ban on the display and carrying of firearms. Such measures are crucial for maintaining law and order and facilitating a smooth electoral process.

As Pune braces for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the concerted efforts of law enforcement agencies underscore their commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
