Verbal Altercation in Pune’s Wagholi Society Erupts Over Dog Barking, Leads to Police Intervention

Wagholi, Pune: A heated dispute unfolded in the affluent Panchshil Towers housing society in Wagholi on the evening of February 5, triggered by a seemingly innocuous incident of a dog barking. The altercation, involving a 37-year-old woman known for her compassionate work with stray dogs and a fellow resident, resulted in a police case registered at the Lonikand police station.

The victim, recognized for her efforts in caring for stray dogs and employed as a gaming app developer, faced verbal abuse from Rohit Belera, a 37-year-old hotelier residing in the same society. The incident arose from a confrontation over dog barking within the society premises, leading to a case filed against the accused for making obscene remarks against the woman.

The complainant, actively involved in activities such as feeding, neutering, and vaccinating stray dogs, as well as caring for disabled canines, encountered Rohit Belera in the society’s parking lot. The verbal altercation escalated with alleged lewd comments and threats, prompting the victim to file a complaint at the Lonikand police station.

Senior Police Inspector Vishwajit Kaingde of Lonikand police station acknowledged occasional disputes over stray dogs within the society but emphasized efforts to resolve such issues internally. The current case sheds light on the broader tensions and frustrations among residents concerning the presence of stray dogs in the housing society.
