A brazen attempt to steal LPG gas from the main pipeline of Hindustan Petroleum came to light in Shinde village, Khed, sending shockwaves through the region. Unidentified individuals reportedly tried to tap into the LPG gas pipeline, prompting swift action from the alert officials of the company. The incident occurred on Saturday and resulted in a case being registered with the local police.
According to the complaint lodged with the police, the thieves managed to tap into the LPG pipeline near a factory situated in Shinde village. They had ingeniously connected a hose pipe from a wall to the pipeline, seemingly with the intention of pilfering LPG gas. However, thanks to the installation of sensors along the pipeline, company officials were immediately alerted to the unauthorized activity. They swiftly reported the incident to the police, preventing any potential theft.
The affected pipeline serves as a crucial conduit for LPG gas, originating from Uran and extending to the Shikrapur plant. While the company officials reported an attempted theft, they did not confirm any actual gas loss.
The police have highlighted the potential catastrophe that could have arisen due to the unauthorized tampering. The leakage of LPG gas from the main pipeline could have led to a major tragedy. A case has been registered under section 15 (2) of the Petroleum and Mineral Pipeline Act 1962 (Amended), and investigations into the matter are currently underway.
