Undertrial Prisoner Escapes During Pune Court Transfer: Search Underway

Undertrial Prisoner Escapes from Police Custody in Pune, Case Registered Pune, 3rd August 2023: A daring escape from police custody shocked the authorities in Pune on Wednesday when an undertrial prisoner, Rajesh Kamble, managed to flee while being produced before the court. Kamble, who was arrested for planning a dacoity and was under trial, made his move while being taken to Yerwada Central Jail from Shivajinagar court.

The escape occurred at approximately 3 pm when Kamble requested a drink of water during the court proceedings. The police personnel took him to a nearby hotel, Regent, to fulfill his request. However, taking advantage of the situation, Kamble made his escape with the assistance of an accomplice who was waiting with a motorbike outside the hotel.

Kamble had a criminal record, leading the police to invoke the Maharashtra Control of Organised Act (MCOCA) against him. He was already facing charges under sections 402, 399 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 4 (25) of the Arms Act. Following his escape, a case has been registered at Shivajinagar Police Station under sections 224, 225, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The police have launched a search operation to apprehend Kamble and his accomplice. The incident has raised concerns about security protocols during court transfers of prisoners. Further investigations into the matter are currently underway. Authorities are determined to apprehend the escaped undertrial and bring him back to face the consequences of his actions.
