Transport Commissioner Urged to Take Swift Action Against Offending Cab Apps

In a recent development, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune has brought to light the unlawful operations of eighteen taxi aggregator companies, including well-known names like Redbus and Rapido. The RTO has formally notified the Transport Commissioner about these companies operating without the necessary permissions and has requested the shutdown of their websites and applications.

Sanjeev Bhor, Deputy Commissioner of RTO Pune, stated, “These companies are illegal as they do not have permissions to operate. After receiving numerous complaints, we have informed the Transport Commissioner’s office about these companies being illegal and urged them to inform Pune Cyber Crime to take relevant action. Notably, Ola and Uber are not part of this list, as notices have already been issued to them. An RTA meeting is scheduled for Monday to address the matter.”

The RTO has taken decisive action against Cab-E, detaining nine vehicles on March 7th. The move comes as a response to persistent demands from cab unions, who have raised concerns about these companies operating without the necessary licenses.

Further investigations revealed that the identified businesses were conducting their operations through websites and applications without obtaining the required licenses. The RTO, in accordance with Section 93 (1) of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, has expressed its intent to close down the websites and apps of these companies.

The list of companies identified as operating illegally includes MakeMyTrip, Goibibo, RedBus, Gozo Cab, Savari, InDrive, Rapido, Car Bazar, Taxi Bazar, Bla Bla Car, Cab-E, One Way Cab, Quick Ryde, S Ride, GaddiBooking by Kuldew, Taxi Wars, RouteMatic, and Owner Taxi.

This crackdown highlights the significance of adhering to regulations in the transportation sector, ensuring the safety and legality of services provided by cab aggregator companies.
