Tragic Suicide in Pune Due to Harassment by Unlicensed Money Lender

Pune, 18th August 2023: A heart-wrenching incident has shaken the Kirkitwadi area of Sinhagad Road as a man took his own life after being subjected to relentless harassment by an unlicensed money lender. The deceased, identified as Nilesh Jangam, was a resident of Kirkitwadi. His wife has lodged a formal complaint, which led to the registration of an FIR against three individuals at the Haveli police station.

The tragic ending of Nilesh Jangam’s life has brought attention to the serious issue of illegal money lending practices that persist in the region. An FIR has been filed against Suhas Dandekar, Govind Maruti Bhople, and Varsha Govind Bhople for their alleged involvement in this unlawful act of money lending.

According to the details provided in the complaint, Nilesh Jangam’s friend, Govind Bhople, had proposed a joint business venture to him. In pursuit of this venture, Bhople borrowed ₹3.5 lakh from Dandekar, who was operating as an unlicensed money lender. Unfortunately, instead of using the borrowed money for the intended purpose, Bhople misused the funds.

As the situation unfolded, and Jangam requested Bhople to repay the loan, both Bhople and his wife started avoiding the matter. The situation escalated further when Dandekar, the unlicensed money lender, resorted to a campaign of harassment against Jangam in an attempt to recover the loaned amount.

The police have discovered a note written by Nilesh Jangam prior to his tragic decision. It seems that the constant abuse and threats from Dandekar left him feeling helpless and pushed him to take the extreme step.

The investigation into this heart-wrenching incident is being led by PSI Sheetal Thembe under the guidance of Officer Anmol Mittal from the Haveli police station. This incident sheds light on the urgent need to address illegal money lending practices and provide support to those who are victimized by such actions.
