Tragic Incident: Class 10 Student Electrocuted in Pune, Marking the Second Incident in a Week

Pune, 28th June 2023: A 16-year-old student from Shivane, Pune, lost his life due to electrocution after accidentally coming into contact with a wire fence in the Deshmukhwadi area. This unfortunate incident marks the second such occurrence within a week in Pune.

The victim, identified as Shubham Balu Pawar, was a resident of Shinde Pul and a Class 10 student at Navbharat High School in Shivane. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning around 11 am while Shubham was en route to meet a friend from school.

According to the authorities at Uttam Nagar police station, preliminary investigations suggest that Shubham unintentionally touched a wire fence surrounding a residential building in a narrow alley. This contact resulted in a fatal electric shock. Local residents rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead. The Uttam Nagar police have registered a case of accidental death in connection with the incident.

Sub-inspector Shubhangi Pawar, who is leading the investigation at Uttam Nagar police station, stated, “Based on preliminary findings, it appears to be a case of death by electric shock. We have requested a report from electrical inspectors, and further actions will be determined accordingly.”

This incident comes just days after another electrocution fatality in Pune. On June 24, a 30-year-old painter lost his life after inadvertently touching a wire fence in a residential society in Kondhwa. Seeking shelter from the rain, he met with a tragic end due to electric shock.

The responsibility for electrical inspections falls under the jurisdiction of the Chief Electrical Inspector’s office, which operates within the Department of Industrial, Energy, and Labour of the Government of Maharashtra. It is essential to distinguish that this entity operates independently of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL).
