Tragic Accident in Pune: Elderly Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run PMPML Bus in Kondhwa

Pune, 30th June 2023: In a heart-wrenching incident, a 76-year-old man lost his life after being hit by a PMPML bus while crossing the road near Reliance Fresh Mart on Salunkhe Vihar Road in Kondhwa. The victim, identified as Bipin Jasvantrai Dave, was on his routine morning walk when the unfortunate accident occurred at around 7 am.

Eyewitnesses reported that the PMPML bus collided with Dave as he was crossing the road. Shockingly, the driver did not stop at the scene and fled from the spot, leaving the elderly man critically injured. Despite immediate medical attention, Dave succumbed to his injuries, leaving his family devastated and in grief.

Hetav Dave, the 44-year-old son of the deceased, acted promptly and lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with the police, providing crucial details of the hit-and-run incident to aid the investigation.

In response to the tragic event, the police have filed a case against the unidentified PMPML driver under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicle Act. The charges include sections 279 (rash driving), 304 (a) (causing death by negligence), 184 (driving dangerously), and 119/177 (rash driving or riding on a public way). Authorities are actively investigating the case to identify the responsible driver and bring them to justice.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and responsible driving. The authorities urge all drivers, especially public transport operators, to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent such tragic accidents in the future. Additionally, hit-and-run incidents must be condemned, and witnesses are encouraged to come forward and cooperate with the authorities to ensure that the culprits are held accountable for their actions.
