Traffic Relief Ahead: Pune University Chowk Set for Significant Changes to Alleviate Congestion

In an effort to address ongoing traffic congestion issues, Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole, in collaboration with Pune Traffic Police, conducted an inspection of Pune University Chowk and Chatushrungi junction. Following the assessment, citizens’ feedback, and discussions with key officials, it has been assured that significant traffic changes will be implemented at Pune University Chowk in the upcoming week.

The announcement was made through MLA Siddharth Shirole’s social media handles, where he shared insights from the inspection. He stated, “Inspected the Pune University Circle and Chaturshringi junction in the evening peak hours with DCP Borate ji and key officials from Pune Traffic Police, PMRDA, PMC, and TATA Projects. Interacted with regular commuters and local residents to assess the impact of recent traffic pattern changes. Taking into account citizen feedback, safety considerations, and construction efficiency, significant alterations to traffic routes will be implemented on the entire Pune University Road in the coming week. The new changes will be communicated in advance.”

Earlier in January 2024, Shirole had informed the public about the trial implementation of a new traffic flow pattern at Pune University Road starting January 15. The trial period aimed to assess the effectiveness of the changes, which included reopening the road from University Chowk to Baner Road (previously closed) and dedicating a lane for smooth traffic flow from University Road to Pashan. Additionally, a new traffic signal at the Nexa Showroom junction after Abhimanshree Society was introduced to regulate traffic from Pashan to University Road and from University Chowk to Baner Road.

The proposed alterations are expected to enhance traffic efficiency, reduce congestion, and improve overall commuting experiences in the Pune University Chowk area.
