The Art of Paper: Wonderfold 2023 Takes Center Stage in Pune

Pune, known for its rich cultural tapestry, is set to host a spectacular exhibition that promises to captivate art enthusiasts and curious minds alike. The ‘Wonderfold 2023’ exhibition, organized by Indutai Tilak Kala Kendra and Origami Mitra, will showcase the mesmerizing world of Origami Art at Tilak Smarak Mandir on Tilak Road from November 23 to 26.

Origami, an intricate Japanese art form, takes center stage as artists from around the region gather to present their masterpieces. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, this marks the 17th edition of the biennial exhibition, and it’s set to make a grand return after a four-year hiatus.

Milind Kelkar, a member of the organizing committee and a skilled Origami artist, expressed excitement about the event’s revival. “The pandemic may have interrupted our regular schedule, but it couldn’t dampen our spirits. We’re back with Wonderfold 2023, promising a visual feast for all,” Kelkar said.

From 10 am to 8 pm daily, visitors will have the opportunity to witness approximately 400 Origami art pieces crafted by 35 to 40 talented artists. The exhibition will feature a diverse array of creations, including exquisite lampshades, intricate models of human figures, lifelike plants, blooming flowers, miniature furniture, and avant-garde special shapes and designs.

The grand inauguration on November 23rd at 10:30 am will be graced by renowned Architect Narendra Dengle and Sculptor Satish Ghatpande, adding prestige to the event.

Origami, with its roots in Japan, has transcended cultural boundaries and continues to enchant people worldwide. “Wonderfold 2023 aims to celebrate this timeless art form, bringing together artists and admirers to appreciate the beauty that unfolds from a simple sheet of paper,” said Kelkar.

As Pune embraces the creativity folded within each piece, Wonderfold 2023 promises to be a visual extravaganza, uniting the community in a shared appreciation for the delicate yet powerful art of Origami.
