Sweltering Conditions: Heat Wave Grips Pune District, Residents Discomforted

Scorching Temperatures and Cloudy Skies Intensify Summer Conditions

Pune, Maharashtra – As the sun beats down relentlessly and clouds offer little respite, Pune district finds itself in the grip of a widespread heatwave, leaving residents sweltering in discomfort. With reports emerging from various parts of the district, including Pune city, temperatures have surged beyond 40 degrees Celsius in many areas, exacerbating the oppressive conditions.

The weather department’s forecast offers little relief, predicting that the heat will persist both day and night, with cloudy skies expected to provide scant relief in the afternoons. The rising minimum temperature, now exceeding 22 degrees Celsius, contributes to uncomfortably warm nights, adding to the woes of residents.

While the entire state grapples with the intensified heatwave, Pune district bears the brunt, with Vidarbha and Marathwada regions experiencing a significant surge in maximum temperatures. Pune itself has recorded an average minimum temperature of 22.5 degrees Celsius, with the mercury soaring to a high of 38.8 degrees Celsius. Conversely, Lonavla, known for its cooler climes, reported a comparatively lower maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius.

As the heatwave persists over the next few days, it poses significant challenges for agricultural activities and related businesses, exacerbated by the cloudy weather conditions.

Thunderstorm Warning for Vidarbha

In a separate weather advisory, cyclonic winds observed over Chhattisgarh and surrounding regions, hovering at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level, have caused a low-pressure belt extending from Vidarbha to interior Karnataka and interior Tamil Nadu. Isolated thunderstorms have been reported across the state, particularly in Vidarbha.

A yellow alert has been issued for the districts of Amravati, Bhandara, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, and Yavatmal in Vidarbha, warning of rainfall accompanied by isolated gales on Sunday. Residents are urged to remain cautious and take necessary precautions in light of these weather conditions.
