SPPU Urges Educational Institutes to Combat Rising Drug Menace Among Youth

In response to a concerning surge in drug addiction cases in Pune City, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has issued an advisory urging all educational institutions to proactively address and report instances of drug use among students.

The notice, dated March 28, 2024, explicitly calls upon Principals, Directors, Heads of Centres, and academic department leaders to exercise vigilance and promptly report any drug-related or suspicious activities to the local police administration. The advisory underscores the seriousness with which both the university and local authorities are treating the issue of drug abuse among the youth.

The alarming increase in drug addiction cases has prompted this collaborative effort to combat the menace effectively. SPPU recognizes the pivotal role that educational institutions play in shaping the future of students and is keen on fostering a safe and drug-free environment.

In addition to the advisory, SPPU plans to implement a series of initiatives aimed at educating students about the severe implications of drug addiction. Counseling programs will be organized to raise awareness and provide necessary support to those affected.
