Sky-High Costs: Food Prices at Pune Airport Spark Passenger Concerns

Viman Nagar, 18th October 2023: Recent reports are shedding light on the astronomical prices that passengers are being asked to pay for food items at Pune Airport, leaving travelers discontented over the hefty expenses that accompany their journey.

The High Costs of In-Flight Snacks

Among the grievances, the prices of a simple sandwich have raised eyebrows, with passengers reportedly forking out a staggering Rs 350 for this in-flight dining option. Equally startling is the cost of a cup of machine-made tea, which comes in at a whopping Rs 150. These steep prices have irked travelers who are further disheartened by the revelation that these food items are not freshly prepared but rather pre-packaged, affecting their overall quality.

Passenger Voices

One passenger took to social media to share his recent airport experience, outlining the exorbitant costs he incurred for what appeared to be a lackluster sandwich and machine-produced tea at Pune Airport. Upon probing the vendor, it was revealed that they were required to pay an astounding ten lakh rupees per month to the airport administration, potentially contributing to the high food prices.

A Resonating Dissatisfaction

This issue has ignited a wave of passengers sharing similar experiences and echoing their grievances concerning the quality and prices of food available at the airport. Many have expressed that the food offered by airport vendors lacks freshness and is pre-made, detracting from the overall dining experience. Some travelers even noted that the prices for airport food surpass those found in cinemas, adding to their frustration.

Airport Authorities Respond

Airport authorities are taking these concerns seriously and have pledged to take action if any food vendor is found to be charging excessively high rates. It is notable that the same seller had been fined Rs 10,000 in the past. If they are found guilty once again, further action will be taken. Additionally, airport authorities have issued directives to vendors to provide affordable drinking water and food options to passengers. All vendors have been mandated to prominently display food prices, promoting transparency and ease of reference for travelers.
