Sharad Pawar Urges PM Modi to Address Chinese ‘Encroachment’ on Indian Territories

NCP Chief Calls for Clarity on India-China Border Dispute Amidst Heightened Tensions

In a significant statement, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar emphasized the imperative for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address concerns regarding Chinese ‘encroachment’ on Indian territories. Pawar’s call for clarity on the India-China border dispute comes amidst escalating tensions and demands for transparency in government action.

During a media interaction, Pawar underscored the need for PM Modi to openly discuss the measures being taken to counter Chinese incursions, highlighting the Prime Minister’s recent critique of historical agreements, such as the ceding of Katchatheevu island to Sri Lanka in 1974 by the Congress government.

Pawar, a former union defence minister, expressed disappointment over the lack of discourse on India’s response to the border dispute, both within and outside Parliament. He urged PM Modi to address the nation on the steps taken to safeguard Indian territories, calling for accountability and transparency in government actions.

In addition to his remarks on the India-China standoff, Pawar criticized Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray for his shifting stance in supporting PM Modi, highlighting the political volatility surrounding the issue.

Responding to questions regarding internal party dynamics, Pawar refuted claims made by NCP leader Praful Patel regarding political alliances and leadership decisions. He clarified his role in past political scenarios, emphasizing his commitment to party principles and collective decision-making processes.

Regarding speculations about his candidacy for Prime Minister in 1996, Pawar acknowledged the offer made by H D Deve Gowda but cited parliamentary arithmetic as a decisive factor in declining the proposition. He underscored the importance of consensus-building and majority support in parliamentary governance, highlighting the complexities of coalition politics.

Pawar’s statements underscore the need for transparency and accountability in addressing critical national issues, urging the government to prioritize clarity and communication in matters of strategic importance.
