Sassoon Hospital Unveils State-of-the-Art Skill Lab Centre for Medical Training

Sassoon General Hospital, a government-run institution, has recently inaugurated a state-of-the-art Skill Lab Centre within its premises. This new facility is set to provide students with the practical skills necessary to deliver superior healthcare services to patients.

Inauguration and Objectives

The centre was officially opened on Tuesday by Dr. Chandrakant Mhaske, the current dean of the hospital. Dr. Sanyogita Naik, the nodal officer of the centre and head of the Department of Anaesthesiology, emphasized that the primary goal of the Skill Lab is to enhance the skills and confidence of undergraduate MBBS students, postgraduate students, faculty, paramedical students, and nursing staff. By training on mannequins before engaging in real patient care, students and staff will be better prepared to ensure higher quality patient outcomes.

Comprehensive Training Programs

The Skill Lab Centre will offer a range of comprehensive courses designed to develop practical skills. These include National Emergency Life Support (NELS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). These programs are available to both students and faculty, aiming to elevate the standard of medical education and patient care provided by the institution.

A Major Milestone

During the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Mhaske remarked, “It is a major milestone for our institution and hopefully, it will work towards enhancing the quality of medical education and patient care provided by our students and the staff in the near future.” His comments underscored the significance of the new facility in advancing the hospital’s educational and healthcare missions.

Attendees and Acknowledgments

The event saw attendance from notable guests, including Dr. Shekhar Pradhan, the postgraduate deputy dean, and Dr. Savita Kamble, the deputy medical superintendent, along with other hospital staff such as nurses and professors. Dr. Mhaske also announced that the establishment of the centre was made possible through funding from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
