Safety Concerns Arise: Pune’s NDA Flyover Undergoes PMC’s Critical Examination

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has undertaken a comprehensive survey of the newly inaugurated NDA flyover, identifying ten precarious areas that pose risks to both commuters and pedestrians. These problem zones encompass the flyover itself, its service roads, and entry-exit points. PMC is now set to present a proposal to the civic committees in a bid to rectify these safety concerns.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), responsible for the construction of the flyover, has also devised plans to address these issues. Their proposals include the construction of underpasses and foot overbridges, all designed to enhance safety and convenience. A detailed plan has already been submitted for approval, along with a budget allocation of Rs 6 Crore. However, it is anticipated that the implementation of these measures will require an additional five to six months post-approval.

One significant safety concern that emerged from PMC’s survey is the risk posed to pedestrians. In response, a proposal for a foot overbridge has been put forth. The NDA flyover was inaugurated by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, with the primary goal of alleviating heavy traffic congestion in the area. Despite this infrastructure addition, local residents continue to grapple with traffic jams during peak hours, questioning the effectiveness of the flyover in resolving the traffic issue.
