Road Rage in Pune: PMPML Driver Assaulted in Altercation with Auto Rickshaw Driver

Pune, 3rd August 2023: A distressing incident occurred near Ambethan Chowk in Chakan, Pune, where a driver of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) was allegedly assaulted by an auto-rickshaw driver following a dispute over parking. The Pimpri Chinhwad Police have registered a case against the auto-rickshaw driver in connection with the incident that took place around 9:30 pm on Wednesday.

As per the police report, the PMPML driver had parked his bus on the service road after completing the trip on the Bhosari-Mahalunge route. At the same location, an auto-rickshaw was also parked nearby. A dispute arose between the PMPML driver, identified as Mohan Malekar (54), and the auto-rickshaw driver over the parking space.

The situation escalated as the auto-rickshaw driver allegedly hurled abuses at Malekar and subsequently physically assaulted him. The incident has drawn concern from the public and transportation authorities, highlighting the need for resolving such disputes amicably and ensuring the safety of drivers and passengers.

A case has been registered at Chakan Police Station against the accused auto-rickshaw driver, identified as Sachin. He has been charged under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from the discharge of his duty), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police are currently conducting an in-depth investigation to uncover all the details related to the incident.
