Rehabilitation Success: Wildlife SOS and Maharashtra Forest Department Release Injured Animals Back Into the Wild in Joint Effort

Pune, 22nd June 2023: In a heartwarming collaboration between Wildlife SOS and the Maharashtra Forest Department, a group of injured animals rescued from various locations in Maharashtra has been successfully rehabilitated and released back into their natural habitats. The remarkable efforts of both organizations have provided these animals with a second chance at life.

The rescue mission involved a dedicated team of four members from Wildlife SOS, working closely with the Maharashtra Forest Department. Among the animals rescued were an Indian gazelle, a langur, and a jackal, each requiring specialized care and treatment.

The first rescue involved an injured Chinkara (Indian gazelle) found in Belhe, Maharashtra. The young female Chinkara, approximately 8 to 9 months old, had been attacked by a pack of feral dogs. The Forest Department promptly intervened and brought the gazelle to the Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre, where Wildlife SOS veterinarians provided extensive medical care for a week. After a steady recovery, the Chinkara was released back into its natural habitat, where it can thrive once again.

In another incident, a distressed Grey langur, approximately 17 years old, was discovered on the roadside in Khed, Maharashtra. The Forest Department acted swiftly and brought the langur to the Wildlife SOS facility, where it received crucial treatment and care.

Furthermore, a Golden jackal, approximately 3 to 4 years old, was rescued from a 25-foot-deep dry well in Waghule. Fortunately, the jackal did not display any signs of distress or open wounds. Following a preliminary examination by Wildlife SOS veterinarians, the jackal was safely released back into its natural habitat, ensuring its well-being and safety.

Dr. Chandan Sawane, Veterinary Officer at Wildlife SOS, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Through continuous monitoring and specialized care, we witnessed a gradual recovery and readiness of these animals to be released back into their natural habitats. Our goal was to ensure these animals have a second chance at life, where they can thrive and contribute to their ecosystems.”

Ajit Shinde, Range Forest Officer of Junnar Forest Range, commended the collaborative effort, saying, “The successful rescue operation conducted by the forest department and Wildlife SOS is a testament to the extraordinary impact that can be achieved with collaborative efforts to save India’s wildlife. I am thankful that we could provide relief to these animals in need.”

Kartick Satyanarayan, Co-founder and CEO of Wildlife SOS, praised the Maharashtra Forest Department’s commitment to wildlife conservation, stating, “The successful rescue and release of these animals exemplify the commitment and dedication of both organizations in preserving and protecting India’s rich biodiversity.”

The triumphant return of these animals to their natural habitats is a cause for celebration. It highlights the positive impact that can be achieved through collaborative efforts and unwavering dedication to wildlife conservation. The joint efforts of Wildlife SOS and the Maharashtra Forest Department serve as an inspiration to continue preserving and protecting India’s precious wildlife.
