“Questions Arise as Non-Functional Animal Incinerators Plague Pune’s Naidu Hospital”

Non-Functional Animal

Pune: A desperate plea from pet owner Dnyanashree Patki has brought to light a pressing issue in Pune—the non-functional animal incinerators near Naidu Hospital. Patki took to social media to express her shock and dismay when she arrived at the facility with her recently deceased pet dog, only to discover that the incinerators were out of order, leaving animals piling up.

Official responses to the situation indicate that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is aware of the issue and intends to rectify it. Yogesh Hendre, Public Relations Officer (PRO) at PMC, assured the public that the incinerators should be operational by the following day. He also noted that the electrical department is well-informed about the current situation and the storage of deceased animals.

Dr. Sarika Funde, Civic Veterinary Officer at PMC, concurred with Hendre, emphasizing that the resolution of the issue depends on the tenders and the electrical department’s actions.

However, Nishikant Raut, PRO at Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), clarified that their role is limited to supplying electricity to PMC, and the operation of the incinerators falls under PMC’s responsibility.

One key concern surrounding this issue is the lack of transparency in communication. While a PMC press note on October 4 did mention that the incinerator for larger animals would be non-functional for a few days, it failed to address the status of incinerators for smaller animals, leaving pet owners like Patki in the dark.

Unanswered questions and concerns linger as Shrinivas Kandul, the head of PMC’s electrical department, has yet to respond to calls and messages regarding the issue.

The non-functional animal incinerators near Naidu Hospital have not only raised alarms among pet owners but have also prompted important questions about the management and maintenance of such critical facilities. The resolution of this issue is eagerly awaited by those who depend on these services for the respectful handling of their beloved pets.
