Budhwar Peth, 10th July 2023: Purnkuti NGO, a beacon of empowerment for marginalized communities, recently hosted an “Innovative Self-Defense Session” at its Budhwar Peth center. The event focused on equipping female sex workers, transgender individuals, people living with HIV (PLHIV), and single women from the region with crucial self-defense skills.
Purnkuti NGO has long been dedicated to uplifting women, children, and individuals affected by HIV, as well as transgender communities in and around Budhwar Peth and Pune city. Operating under the ‘Dhara’ project, the organization conducts diverse training workshops encompassing basic tailoring, bakery product crafting, cooking and catering, Diwali product creation, mehndi art, makeup application, masala production, and business management training. These courses have garnered positive responses from beneficiaries, motivating them to acquire new skills.
The inauguration of the “Self-Defense Session” was graced by Mr. Suhas Nadgowda Sir, Former Additional Superintendent of Police, who emphasized the importance of self-defense preparedness. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from attendees, with Mr. Vijeth and Nikhil from “Kalah India” acting as instructors for the session.
Throughout the session, the trainers demonstrated invaluable techniques to enhance personal safety during times of crisis. A total of 21 beneficiaries took part, eager to augment their self-confidence and security.
