Recent data highlights a distressing trend, showcasing a significant rise in drug cases filed and the quantities seized over the past three years.

In 2021, Pune saw 107 drug-related cases filed. This number increased to 150 cases in 2022 and spiked to 120 cases in 2023, marking a substantial and concerning upward trend that requires immediate attention.
Accused Individuals:
The number of accused individuals has also shown a noteworthy increase. In 2021, there were 154 individuals involved, a figure that rose to 200 in 2022 and reached 143 in 2023. These statistics emphasize the deeply rooted nature of the problem.

What is even more alarming is the volume of narcotics seized. In 2021, authorities confiscated drugs valued at 2.5 crore INR. This number surged to 9.5 crore INR in 2022 and skyrocketed to a staggering 14.5 crore INR in 2023. Police Commissioner’s Concern:
Pune’s Police Commissioner, Retesh Kumaarr, has expressed deep concern about this escalating drug menace. He emphasized that drug mafias are now targeting Pune, aiming to exploit the city’s youthful population and dynamic culture. In response, the police have intensified their operations, focusing on establishments like restaurants, bars, and clubs operating late into the night, in accordance with state regulations. They are also closely monitoring colleges and other places frequented by young people. The police force includes officers in plainclothes and uniforms, working tirelessly to combat this issue.
