In a saddening turn of events, a prisoner held at Yerawada Central Jail under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) passed away during treatment at Sassoon General Hospital in Pune. The inmate, Balasaheb Jaywant Khedekar (59), had been admitted to the hospital on September 10, battling health complications stemming from high blood pressure.
As per information provided by jail authorities, Khedekar had been incarcerated in relation to a case registered against him at Loni Kalbhor Police Station, which included charges of murder and other pertinent sections of the law. Additionally, the stringent provisions under MCOCA had been imposed upon him. He had been serving his sentence at Yerawada Central Prison since August 2021.
Prior to this unfortunate incident, Khedekar had previously been admitted to Sassoon Hospital earlier in the year, receiving medical care between January and February. His recent admission on September 10 was primarily due to complications arising from high blood pressure, further compounded by his diabetic condition, according to officials.
At approximately 3:30 am on Wednesday, medical professionals at the hospital pronounced him deceased. Following this, his body underwent a postmortem examination, and his family was duly informed about his tragic passing, as reported by the jail authorities.
