In line with the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecasts of heavy rain in isolated areas on Saturday, the ghat regions of Pune have witnessed substantial rainfall in recent hours. According to IMD data, Tamhini Ghat reported a staggering 112 mm of rainfall within the last 24 hours. Additionally, Bhor recorded 81 mm of rain, Mawal received 56 mm, and Lonavala registered 73 mm of rainfall.
Several parts of the city have also experienced substantial precipitation after an extended dry spell. IMD reported that Koregaon Park received 24.2 mm of rain, while Magarpatta recorded 24.1 mm, and Shivajinagar saw 22.8 mm of rainfall within the last 24 hours. Furthermore, other areas in the city reported an average rainfall exceeding 20 mm during this period.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the ghat areas in Pune district today. According to IMD, the district is likely to witness “heavy rainfall at isolated places in ghat areas” on September 10. Despite the recent rainfall, dam water storage levels have not seen a significant increase. The cumulative storage in the Khadakwasla cluster currently stands at 93.75% (27.33 TMC), compared to 99.77% (29.08 TMC) reported on the same day last year.
