Pune’s PMC Fire Brigade Department to Receive New Head Office Building in Lohianagar

Pune Municipal Corporation

Pune, 6th August 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is embarking on a significant development as it plans to erect a modern facility for the fire brigade department’s head office in Lohianagar. This endeavor aims to replace the existing aged building situated in the Bhavani Peth area. The proposal, originating from the fire brigade department, has gained approval from the Municipal Commissioner, marking an important milestone in enhancing emergency response capabilities.

The forthcoming building in Lohianagar is slated to comprise multiple floors, dedicated space for accommodating firefighting vehicles, and a host of auxiliary amenities. The decision to replace the current structure was driven by the deteriorating state of the existing fire brigade office building, compounded by the congested access road leading to the facility.

The existing challenges include road encroachments at various points, which have contributed to the congestion surrounding the fire brigade office. The limited and obstructed access route has posed obstacles for the movement of the department’s heavy vehicles during critical situations. The current building’s structural integrity has also come into question, particularly after a section of the ceiling collapsed near the control room in the past.

The planned relocation to Lohianagar addresses these challenges and sets the stage for a more efficient and accessible headquarters for the fire brigade department. The prospective building is designed to not only cater to the present requirements of the department but also to accommodate potential future growth.
