Pune’s PMC Achieves Milestone in Pulse Polio Immunisation Drive

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has achieved a significant milestone in its pulse polio immunisation initiative, surpassing the set target by vaccinating over 3.08 lakh children aged 0 to 5 years. The civic body’s health department officials announced on Friday that the pulse polio drive, conducted from March 3 to March 8, achieved an impressive coverage rate of 101%.

PMC’s relentless efforts in the intensified pulse polio immunisation campaign ensured widespread coverage across the city, with 3,08,185 children receiving vital polio drops, exceeding the initial target of 3,04,931 children.

The success of the campaign can be attributed to the meticulous planning and execution by PMC, which deployed 1,298 mobile and 102 fixed booths across various locations. Immunisation camps were strategically held at municipal hospitals, community halls, anganwadis, railway stations, airports, toll gates, and bus stands to maximize outreach.

Furthermore, PMC demonstrated its commitment to reaching every child by appointing 26 mobile and 20 night teams dedicated to administering polio doses to children residing in labour camps and those living on the streets. Collaborating with the Paediatric Doctors Association, NGOs, and other stakeholders, PMC ensured a comprehensive and inclusive approach to the vaccination drive.

Dr. Rajesh Dighe, Chief Immunisation Officer at PMC, highlighted the proactive measures undertaken during the campaign, stating, “On day one, 2.63 lakh children were immunised. The mobile teams conducted doorstep vaccination.” This swift and efficient mobilization played a crucial role in achieving the remarkable coverage rate observed throughout the pulse polio drive.
