Pune’s Moshi Traffic Park: PMRDA Navigates Challenges to Recover Rent Arrears from Contractor

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) faces hurdles in recovering rent arrears from the contractor responsible for the Moshi traffic park, even after the expiration of a five-year contract in 2023. The PMRDA officials are engaged in discussions with the contractor to finalize the outstanding rent arrears.

Ramdas Jagtap, Deputy Collector at PMRDA, provided insights into the ongoing negotiations, stating, “A combined meeting was conducted within PMRDA, involving officials from the accounts and finance department, land and estate department, and the traffic park contractor. The contractor has requested a concession in the outstanding rent due to the closure of park operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. The calculations and finalization of the entire outstanding rent arrears will be completed in 1 or 2 weeks for the contractor to settle.”

To enhance public awareness of traffic laws, the Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA) established a traffic park on a four-acre plot in Sector number 6 in Moshi. The PMRDA entrusted a private limited company with the contract to run and maintain the traffic park for a period of five years, starting on May 1, 2018, and ending on April 30, 2023.

Despite the expiration of the five-year contract in April 2023, the private limited company has neither handed over possession of the traffic park to the PMRDA nor settled the outstanding rent. The contractor’s plea for a concession in rent is based on the challenges faced during the pandemic-induced closure of park operations.

The resolution of these financial matters is crucial for the smooth functioning and future planning of the Moshi traffic park. The PMRDA is diligently working towards a fair and mutually agreeable settlement with the contractor.
