Pune’s Infrastructure Saga: 5000 Segments Cast as Metro Line 3 Forges Ahead

The ambitious Pune Metro Line 3, designed to connect the IT hub of Hinjewadi with the central business district of Shivajinagar, is making significant strides in its construction. The latest achievement is the casting of the 5000th segment, a notable milestone reached on Saturday. The pace of development has been remarkable, with the last 3000 segments cast within a span of just seven months following the 2000th segment cast at Hinjawadi on April 24, 2022.

Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), undertaking the Pune Metro Line 3 project on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis, has collaborated with Tata Group, establishing Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited as a special-purpose company (SPC) to oversee the project’s implementation.

Alok Kapoor, the Chief Executive Officer of Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, shared insights into the project’s progress, stating, “The Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar metro line aims to provide an easy, fast, and cheap public transport alternative to the citizens of Pune. The developers are working at full capacity to complete the work of this project within the scheduled time.”

He added, “After the casting of the first-ever segment, we have managed to achieve the milestone of the 5000th segment casting in just sixteen consecutive months. Additionally, 80% of the total piers have been erected within one and a half years of the commencement of work.”

As the Pune Metro Line 3 continues to gain momentum, the city anticipates enhanced connectivity, offering residents a reliable and efficient public transportation option.
