Pune’s Guardian Minister Directs PMPML: Shift Diesel Buses to CNG Within Two Months

Pune, August 12th, 2023: The Guardian Minister of Pune, Chandrakant Patil, presided over a comprehensive review meeting on Friday at the Pune Municipal Corporation, addressing a spectrum of pertinent issues. One of the pivotal directives arising from this session was aimed at the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), with the minister urging the swift conversion of all diesel-operated buses to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) within the next two months. The implementation, he advised, should be carried out progressively.

Presently, the PMPML operates a fleet comprising 123 diesel-powered buses, with an additional 50 buses currently out of commission. Minister Patil’s mandate entails transforming these buses into CNG-operated vehicles, a move envisioned to align the entire PMPML fleet with environmentally friendly practices. In emphasizing this transition, he underscored the role of utilizing green fuels as a significant step towards combating pollution in the city.

Guardian Minister Patil went on to task PMPML officials with the responsibility of delving into the root causes behind the recurrent breakdowns experienced by buses on Pune’s roads. These breakdowns, which often culminate in traffic disruptions and inconvenience for commuters, necessitate a comprehensive examination to establish effective remedies. Notably, PMPML has already made substantial progress in converting a considerable portion of its diesel-powered fleet to CNG. The fleet’s expansion also includes the introduction of electric buses, furthering the organization’s commitment to sustainability
