Pune’s Educational Renaissance: Adarsh School Scheme Promises a Brighter Future

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is spearheading a transformative initiative, the Adarsh School Scheme, aimed at elevating the standard of education by upgrading facilities in PMC schools. In a significant move, 30 schools have been included in the scheme this year, with work already completed on 15 of them. The tender process for these 15 schools has concluded, and plans are underway to extend the scheme to 15 more schools in the upcoming 2024-25 budget.

PMC oversees 284 schools that provide education in Marathi, English, Urdu, and Kannada, catering to approximately 90 thousand students. Recognizing the need for improved infrastructure to enhance the quality of education, PMC is focused on transforming schools into more aesthetically pleasing and conducive learning environments. The selection of 15 schools for the pilot project draws inspiration from successful models in cities like Delhi and Pimpri Chinchwad, with collaboration with social organizations playing a pivotal role in this initiative.

The first phase of the Adarsh School Scheme, involving 15 model schools, has witnessed substantial progress, with most of the planned work already completed. As the second phase kicks off, the tender process for an additional 15 schools has commenced and is poised for approval, marking the continuation of efforts to enhance educational standards.

Vikas Dhakne, Additional Commissioner of PMC, expressed, “The Adarsh School scheme has been implemented in 30 PMC schools this year, and students will begin benefiting from the improved facilities in the academic year 2025. We plan to replicate this success in 15 more schools, with provisions in the upcoming budget to further our commitment to improving education standards.”
