Pune’s Bhimathadi Jatra 2023: Empowering Rural Women Through Commerce

The Bhimathadi Jatra, a significant event dedicated to promoting women’s economic empowerment, has announced its schedule for this year’s edition. Sunanda Pawar, Trustee of the Agricultural Development Trust Baramati, revealed that the Bhimathadi Jatra will grace Pune from December 21 to December 24, 2023.

The Agricultural Development Trust is a multifaceted organization with a rich history of five decades, actively involved in diverse fields such as agriculture, education, water conservation, training, women’s self-help groups, and women’s empowerment. One of its notable initiatives is the ‘Bhimathadi Jatra.’

At its core, the Bhimathadi Jatra seeks to provide a rightful marketplace for products crafted by women entrepreneurs and women’s self-help groups from rural areas. This year marks the 17th edition of the Bhimathadi Jatra, and Sunanda Pawar expressed her excitement about this significant milestone.

This year’s fair promises innovative attractions, with a unique concept that includes bulk grains like millet-nachni, ral, sava, bhagar, sama, varai, diversified products, natural agricultural goods, and products from various processing industries. Notably, new women’s self-help groups will be given preferential admission this year.

Visitors to the Bhimathadi Jatra can look forward to immersing themselves in the rich art and culture of Maharashtra, with performances by Gondhali, Potraj, Bharud, Patharwat, Burud, Kersoniwale, and Nandi bull artists. The event will also host a rural food festival featuring handicrafts created by women’s self-help groups, summer foods, spices, pickles, clothing, fruits, leafy vegetables, grains, pulses, and much more. A total of 310 stalls will be allocated to women’s self-help groups and women entrepreneurs from all corners of the country and the state.

In addition to this, the event will feature a select gallery showcasing products from women across Maharashtra and other states, along with thematic galleries focusing on environmental awareness and conservation messages. Information stalls will be set up to educate attendees about hydroponics farming, soilless farming, non-toxic leafy vegetables, kitchen gardens, fisheries, floristry, honey production, and more.
