Pune’s Balewadi High Street Phase 2 Inaugurated to Alleviate Traffic Woes

On March 16th, a significant milestone was achieved in Pune as the inauguration of Phase 2 of the Balewadi High Street, from Mamta Chowk to Wakad Bridge, took place. The ceremony was presided over by Former Mayor of Pune, State BJP General Secretary, and official candidate of Pune Lok Sabha Constituency Muralidhar Mohol, along with Pune City BJP President Dheeraj Ghate.

This crucial road segment, linking Mamta Chowk to Wakad Bridge, had been pending for several years. Initially constructed by the Pune Municipal Corporation in 2015-16 at a cost of Rs 40 crore, the project’s completion had been eagerly awaited by residents and commuters alike.

Amol Balwadkar, Former Corporator, highlighted the persistent efforts of various stakeholders, including ex-corporator Jyoti Kalamkar, Swapnali Saikar, and Kothrud MLA Chandrakant Patil, in advocating for the swift completion of this vital infrastructure project. Chandrakant Patil’s recent allocation of substantial funds played a pivotal role in advancing the project, leading to the inauguration of Phase 2.

While 70% of the road work has already been completed, the remaining 30% involving land acquisition is in its final stages. Once finalized, the entire stretch from Balewadi to Wakad Bridge will be open to the public, offering improved connectivity and easing traffic congestion in the Baner-Balewadi area.

To celebrate the inauguration of the new road, the “Happy Street Balewadi 2024” event was organized by the Amol Balwadkar Foundation. The festivities included a diverse range of activities such as games, dance performances, Zumba sessions, live music, badminton matches, tattoo artists, children’s fairs, carrom games, and magic shows. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from hundreds of residents spanning various age groups and neighborhoods.

Furthermore, a skating competition, organized by the Amol Balwadkar Foundation, provided skating enthusiasts with an opportunity to showcase their skills. Winners across different age groups were felicitated with medals and prizes, adding to the celebratory atmosphere of the occasion.

The event saw the presence of prominent dignitaries, including Former Mayor of Pune, Muralidhar Mohol, Pune City BJP President Dheeraj Ghate, and several corporators and community leaders. Their collective efforts, along with the support of local residents and organizations, underscored the collaborative spirit driving the development and enhancement of Pune’s infrastructure.
