Puneites prefer paying property tax online, civic body collects Rs 808 crore

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has earned Rs 1,331 crore revenue from property tax, out of which the highest recovery is from online payment of bills. As many as 68 per cent or over 4.94 lakh property owners paid Rs 808 crore through the online mode.

Property owners get up to 10 per cent concession in their property tax if they pay it in the first two months of the financial year (FY), i.e. in April and May. Citizens were demanding an extension to this period. There are 14.22 lakh property owners in the city, who have been sent property tax in the new FY. They get a rebate on their total bill up to 10 pc as per the civic body’s rules.

An extension was given to the last date to avail the discount in the bill till June 15. The deadline is over now. The PMC earned Rs 1,330 crore of revenue till June 17 in property tax. On June 17 alone, Rs 1.93 crore was paid. As many as 7,31,342 property owners paid their bills till June 17. Around 5 lakh citizens have still not paid the bill. The PMC hopes to collect over Rs 2,800 crore in property tax. The number of property owners paying online property bills has increased manifold. As many as 68 pc of property holders have paid the bill online.
