Pune Woman Officer Falls Victim to INR 76,000 Online Shopping App Scam

Pune, August 5th, 2023: In an unfortunate incident, a female officer employed in the Defense Accounts Department in Pune has been swindled out of a substantial sum of 76 thousand rupees through a cyber scam. The incident has shed light on the persistent threat of online scams that continue to exploit unsuspecting individuals.

The scam revolved around the manipulation of a popular online shopping app, where the victim was lured with the promise of lucrative rewards. Disturbingly, the victim’s trust was manipulated by a cybercriminal who posed as an official representative of the shopping app. The criminal employed persuasive tactics to deceive the woman into believing that she would be receiving a substantial reward in exchange for a nominal payment.

Wanwadi police station has confirmed that the woman has taken the necessary steps by filing a formal complaint regarding the incident. This marks a proactive approach to addressing such cybercrimes and raising awareness within the community. Law enforcement agencies emphasize the importance of reporting such incidents promptly to initiate investigations and minimize potential losses.

Upon delving into the matter, it was revealed that the victim was coerced into making multiple transactions, totaling 76 thousand rupees, at different intervals. The cybercriminal exploited the victim’s vulnerability by taking advantage of the allure of rewards, leading to the substantial loss. The police are actively working on tracing the transactions and gathering evidence to apprehend the culprits responsible for this reprehensible act.
