Pune Woman Alleges Harassment Over Menstrual Cycle: Husband and In-Laws Booked

Pune, 10th August 2023: A disturbing incident has come to light in the city, as a 37-year-old woman has filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws, accusing them of subjecting her to harassment due to her menstrual cycle. The complainant alleges that she was isolated and prohibited from touching household items during her periods.

According to the complaint, the accused not only isolated her but also deprived her of proper food and made her sleep on the floor during her menstrual cycle. Whenever she tried to object to this inhumane treatment, she faced threats and verbal abuse from the accused. This alleged ordeal continued for over a year, after which she was sent to her parents’ home.

Adding to her ordeal, the husband sent her a divorce notice while she was staying with her parents. The woman has taken legal action by filing a complaint with the Vishrantwadi Police. The complaint has been lodged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 498 (A) which deals with cruelty by husband or relatives, 323 for causing hurt, 504 for intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, 506 for criminal intimidation, and 34 for acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.

The police have initiated an investigation into the matter to ascertain the truth behind the allegations. This case has once again brought attention to the importance of respecting women’s rights and dignity, regardless of cultural or traditional beliefs.
