Pune Weather Update: IMD Forecasts Unusually Mild Winter Ahead

Pune, India: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its forecast for the upcoming winter season, indicating that Pune and several other regions can anticipate milder temperatures than usual. The IMD’s predictions also highlight a decrease in the frequency and intensity of cold waves across north, northwest, central, east, and northeast India.

During the winter months from December to February, most parts of the country are expected to witness above-normal minimum temperatures. However, specific areas in central and northwest India may experience below-normal maximum temperatures, adding a nuanced twist to the seasonal climate.

The IMD’s information suggests that the upcoming winter season will bring warmer temperatures compared to the historical averages, resembling those observed in November. Recent months have consistently recorded temperatures higher than the norm, with November ranking as the third warmest month since IMD began record-keeping in 1901.

Looking ahead to the winter season of 2023-2024, the forecast anticipates above-average minimum temperatures for the majority of the country. Moreover, many regions are likely to experience above-average maximum temperatures, with exceptions in central and neighboring northwest India, where normal to below-average maximum temperatures are projected.

In terms of precipitation, the forecast indicates a higher probability of above-normal rainfall in the majority of the northwest region and adjoining areas of central and east India. Additionally, specific areas in the extreme south peninsular India are expected to receive increased rainfall. Conversely, below-normal rainfall is predicted for numerous parts of northeast India, north peninsular India, and adjoining areas of central India.

As the winter season approaches, residents and authorities are urged to stay informed about the evolving weather patterns and prepare accordingly.
