Hot Weather Alert: Pune’s Day Temperatures on the Rise

Pune: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rising day temperatures and hot weather conditions across most parts of Maharashtra over the next few days. According to the IMD’s district-level forecast, several areas in Konkan are likely to experience hot and humid conditions, while some other districts may face heatwave conditions. However, no heatwave is forecasted for Pune at this time.

Rising Temperatures in Pune

An IMD official stated, “There is no heatwave forecast for Pune as of now, but day temperatures are expected to rise in the coming days based on current indications. If there is a chance of a heatwave in Pune, we will notify accordingly.”

The official attributed the surge in temperatures to the cessation of thunderstorm and rainfall activity, leading to mainly clear skies expected in a day or two across the state.

Temperature Readings Across Pune

The rising temperatures have already started taking a toll, with Pune city recording high day temperatures on Tuesday. Specific areas in Pune recorded the following temperatures:

  • Shivajinagar: 40.6°C
  • Wadgaonsheri: 42.7°C
  • Koregaon Park: 42.3°C
  • Pashan: 41.8°C
  • Lohegaon: 40°C

IMD’s Advice for Residents

Residents have been advised to take necessary precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours to cope with the sweltering heat. The IMD recommends the following measures to ensure safety during the hot weather:

  • Stay Indoors: Remain indoors during peak sunlight hours, typically between 10 AM and 4 PM.
  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeinated or alcoholic beverages.
  • Protective Clothing: Wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing. Use hats or umbrellas when outside.
  • Sunscreen: Apply sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
  • Cooling Measures: Use fans, air conditioning, or take cool showers to lower body temperature.

Looking Ahead

The IMD continues to monitor the weather conditions and will provide updates if there is any change in the forecast, particularly regarding the potential for heatwaves. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and take the necessary precautions to mitigate the effects of rising temperatures.
