Man Dies At Pimpri Station

Pune / Pimpri: A man, in a rush to catch the train, fell from the platform onto the track and was crushed under the wheels at the Pimpri Railway Station early on Friday.

There was a usual rush of passengers to catch the Sinhagad Express bound for Mumbai that arrived at the station at 6.30 am. A compartment is reserved for passengers from Pimpri, which halts at its designated spot. However, a judgment of error by the motorman cost a man his life. The deceased has been identified as Fatimal Gudela (55).

Hundreds of people travel to Mumbai by the Sinhagad Express for business and job. Though there are separate compartments for passengers from Pimpri-Chinchwad, they are still not adequate in comparison to a rising number of passengers. Many times, travellers fight to occupy a seat. Sometimes, the rush causes accidents.

The incident on Friday

The train arrived at the Pimpri Station at 6.30 am on Friday. The motorman did not follow the speed limit, due to which each compartment halted some distance away from its designated spot. The victim, Fatimal Gudela, in a hurry to catch the train, fell down and was run over by the train, which came to halt immediately. He was rushed to the YCM Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The train arrives speedily and halts abruptly

The train has separate compartments for Pimpri-Chinchwad. Passengers compete to board it. The train arrives speedily in the station and halts abruptly. Thus, compartments halt a distance away from their designated spots. This causes a melee among passengers. Some fell down and get injured. Pickpockets take advantage of the situation. Passengers not used to the rush try to catch the running train and put their lives in danger, said regular passengers.

Think of those who are waiting for you

Passengers were discussing the death of their fellow traveller. A tribute was paid to him. A post on social media appealed to people to take care: ‘All my friends, I plead to you from the bottom of my heart that your life is valuable. You have the responsibility of your family. Therefore, do not rush to catch the train daily in the morning. Take care of yourself and others while boarding the train’.
