Pune University’s Global Reach: Triumph of International Scholars in PhD Entrance Exam

In a significant achievement for Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), nine foreign students hailing from Afghanistan, South Africa, Iraq, Iran, Mauritius, Australia, Taiwan, and Turkey have successfully cleared the university’s PhD Entrance test. The online examination, conducted on December 22, 2023, aimed at admitting international scholars to various PhD courses offered by SPPU’s departments and affiliated colleges.

The online entrance exam, organized by SPPU’s International Centre, witnessed the participation of a total of 13 students from the aforementioned eight countries. The successful candidates demonstrated their academic prowess and met the rigorous standards set by the university for doctoral studies.

Prof. Dr. Vijay Khare, the Director of the International Centre, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, highlighting the commitment of the center in facilitating the enrollment of foreign students in PhD courses since 2015. To further attract international talent, the entrance exam is conducted thrice a year, providing multiple opportunities for aspiring scholars to join SPPU’s diverse academic community.

Notably, the success of these nine scholars adds to the global representation within SPPU’s academic landscape. Currently, the university boasts 114 foreign students from approximately 20 different countries who are actively pursuing their PhD across various departments and affiliated colleges. This internationalization of the academic community contributes to a vibrant and culturally diverse research environment.

As SPPU continues to foster global collaborations and welcomes scholars from around the world, the success of these nine foreign students underscores the university’s commitment to excellence in research and the promotion of cross-cultural academic endeavors.
