Pune: At Shivaji Chowk in Pune on Tuesday morning around 9:30 a.m., a young man lost his life when a dumper collided with an oncoming bike. The victim, identified as 21-year-old Shubham Dadabhau Doke from Magarpatta, Hadapsar, was declared dead at the scene. Faraskhana police swiftly took action, apprehending both the dumper driver, Kamaldev Kailas Mahato (28, resident of Mundhwa), and the bike rider heading in the opposite direction, Abhijeet Dilip Chandane (38, resident of Lahuji Society, Padmavati, Pune).
The incident was reported by Police Constable Prabhakar Pandurang Sonwane (55), who filed a complaint at the Faraskhana police station. The charges filed against both the dumper driver and the bike rider include IPC 304A and 279 under the Motor Vehicle Act. Both have been taken into custody.
According to police accounts, the area where the accident occurred is designated as a one-way street, with traffic flowing from Shaniwar Wada towards Swargate on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road. Access to Datta Mandir from Rameshwar Chowk is closed, but incidents of vehicles going in the opposite direction have been observed.
On Monday morning, Shubham Doke was riding his bike near Datta Mandir, heading towards Rameshwar Chowk. Simultaneously, a dumper was passing by, and Abhijit Chandane took a left turn in the opposite direction. In an attempt to avoid a collision, Shubham applied his brakes, causing his bike to skid and fall onto the road. Tragically, he came under the rear wheel of the passing dumper, resulting in fatal injuries.
Shubham Dadabhau Doke succumbed to his injuries on the spot, with the dumper’s wheel running over his head. Sub-Inspector of Police Dadhe is currently leading the ongoing investigation into the incident.
