Pune: Theft of Army Colonel’s Pistol and Live Rounds Sparks Concern, Investigation Underway

August 17, 2023: In a disconcerting incident that has raised security concerns, an Army Colonel residing in Pune has filed a complaint with the Pune City Police regarding a theft that occurred in his room. The theft involved the unauthorized acquisition of his pistol and approximately 20 live rounds, which were stored within his residence. The incident came to the Colonel’s attention when he discovered his pistol missing from a room located in the Khadki area.

The complainant, who serves as a Colonel in the Armoured Corps Center School located in Ahmednagar, registered a formal complaint with the police. According to his statement, the pistol was securely stored inside a locked box within a room at the Army Base Workshop in Khadki. Shockingly, the thief managed to gain access by breaking the lock on the box and subsequently making off with the private revolver and the associated rounds. The unfortunate incident is believed to have occurred sometime between March 21 and August 12 of this year.

Local authorities have swiftly taken action in response to the complaint. A case has been officially registered at the Khadki Police Station, invoking relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 454 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment), 457 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit an offence), and 380 (theft in a building used as a human dwelling, etc.).
